The trial against seven men who allegedly killed the ELukwatini Police Station Commander, Beauty Marivate, is set to resume before the Mbombela High Court on Wednesday October 18.
The accused are charged with murder, attempted murder, housebreaking with intent to rob , robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of explosives.
Colonel Marivate, received a call about a business burglary. She immediately rushed to the scene with other officers as backup. Upon arrival, there was an exchange of fire and it hit her.
“When other officers arrived, they immediately called emergency services, and emergency services rushed her to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, the officers arrested one suspect at the scene. The suspect had an unlicensed firearm,” read the statement.
Investigations further traced the suspects’ hide out in a house in Nhlazatshe and made five arrests. They will appear at the Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for various charges.
