Roadblock operation conducted in Carolina.
The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality’s (CALM) Community Safety Services, through its Traffic Section, conducted a targeted roadblock operation on the R38 route in Carolina, focusing on motorists with outstanding traffic violations on May 21.
The operation utilised advanced traffic safety cameras alongside the Nyamsoro electronic system to identify non-compliant drivers in real time.
According to the CALM spokesperson, Thapelo Phetla, the operation yielded immediate results, with R42,050 collected in unpaid fines.
This forms part of the municipality’s ongoing Revenue Enhancement Strategy aimed at improving service delivery through increased revenue collection.
“Motorists stopped during the operation were screened using the Nyamsoro electronic device, which instantly flags outstanding warrants and unpaid penalties linked to vehicle registration numbers or driving licences,” Phetla said.
Assistant Chief Traffic Officer Muziwakhe Mfusi, who led the operation, emphasised that the initiative goes beyond routine law enforcement.
“This is not merely a traffic enforcement exercise; it is a core pillar of our Revenue Enhancement Strategy.
Unpaid traffic fines represent lost revenue that could otherwise fund critical community safety infrastructure and services,” he said.
Mfusi added that the integration of technology such as Nyamsoro with visible policing is helping the municipality address non-compliance more effectively while recovering funds owed.
He further urged motorists to take responsibility for their traffic compliance.
“Road users are encouraged to visit paymyfines.co.za to check for any outstanding violations and settle them promptly. Let us drive safely and obey traffic regulations at all times,” he added.
The municipality confirmed that similar revenue-driven traffic operations will soon be rolled out in other areas, including Badplaas and Elukwatini, as part of broader efforts to improve compliance and revenue collection.
All funds collected during the operation will be deposited directly into the municipal revenue account in line with the objectives of the Revenue Enhancement Strategy.
