Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality launched the Safer Festive Season Campaign, led by the Community Safety Services MMC Cllr Gugu Zulu-Khumalo at Carolina corner of Voortrekker and Kerk Street.
Municipal Traffic, by-law enforcement, law enforcement, fire services, and disaster management personnel will be out in their numbers to ensure the safety of residents and visitors to the municipality.
MMC Zule said the Festive Season Road Safety awareness campaign is a government programme that aims to prioritize and promote safer road usage during the high peak season within the municipality’s road.
“The operation included visits to shops with the Department of Employment and Labour, Home Affairs, the immigration section, and South African Police Services, whereby individuals which are undocumented were taken to the Carolina Police Station to be processed by the SAPS and the Immigration Officers, and fines were issued especially to those who do not comply,” she said.
She added that , the Department of Employment and Labour took the information of workers to check if they are registered for UIF and other employment benefits. These operations will be ongoing throughout the festive season.
The Municipality urges those who will be using public roads:
- Take regular breaks when traveling far.
- Do not drink and drive.
- Ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy.
- Ensure that you have the correct documentation (license is valid).
