The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) held its main strategic planning session on Tuesday March 19 at Badplaaas Forever resort in eManzana, focusing on sustainable development.
According to CALM spokesperson Thapelo Phetla, the strategic planning is a crucial process where organizational leaders define their vision for the future, identify goals and objectives, and establish a sequence for their realization.
During the session, Executive Mayor Daniel Nkosi emphasized the importance of sustainable development, especially in the context of urban development and climate change, which are key aspects of the global sustainable development agenda.
He highlighted that unsustainable development would deprive future generations of the region’s resources.
“The strategic planning aims to enhance the municipality’s performance in delivering quality services to its residents. Heads of departments led discussions in different key performance areas in breakaway groups, collaborating with councillors and officials from national, provincial, and district levels. These discussions will continue over the two-day planning session, with departments presenting outcomes from their breakaway groups,” he said.
Phetla added that the strategic planning process highlights the municipality’s commitment to sustainable development and improving service delivery for its residents.
