The Democratic Alliance (DA), led by its Mpumalanga provincial leader Jane Sithole, held its Blue Wave campaign in Carolina as part of its efforts to win support from residents ahead of the November 2026 local government elections.
The campaign focused on service delivery challenges in Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality, with the party urging residents to vote for change amid concerns about failing infrastructure, unemployment and municipal governance.
The DA accused the current government of failing to provide adequate basic services, claiming that infrastructure deterioration, cadre deployment and the alleged misuse of taxpayers’ money had undermined development and discouraged investment.
Sithole’s campaign also highlighted unemployment, with the party arguing that skilled and qualified residents remained without opportunities while local businesses struggled with bureaucratic red tape, unreliable electricity and failing water and transport infrastructure.
The DA called for accountable leadership, improved municipal management and investment in infrastructure to create jobs, support businesses and improve residents’ quality of life.
The party has not publicly announced a dedicated mayoral candidate for Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality ahead of the elections.
