The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) officially launched its highly anticipated Youth Career Exhibition at Elukwatini Community Hall on April 20, aiming to inspire and equip young people with essential career guidance.
According to GSDM Member of the Mayoral Committee for Special Projects, Cllr Busisiwe Mkhwanazi, a total of 36 schools from five circuits within the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality are participating in the four-day programme, which features 12 exhibitors.
Mkhwanazi said the initiative, running until April 23, is designed to empower learners—particularly those from rural communities by bringing career opportunities and information directly to them.
“Through collaboration with the Mpumalanga Department of Education, learners from various schools across the municipality have been invited to attend this impactful exhibition. The initiative aims to equip them with critical information and practical tools to navigate their career paths with confidence and clarity,” she said.
The exhibition includes key stakeholders such as Tshwane University of Technology, Sibane Setfu TVET College, the Department of Higher Education and Training, Services SETA, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, and Statistics South Africa.
These institutions delivered insightful presentations, outlining available bursaries, funding opportunities, and step-by-step application processes to assist learners in planning their futures.
Mkhwanazi urged learners to remain committed to their studies, reminding them that they are the future pillars of their families and communities. She also called for unity and mutual respect among young people, discouraging judgment based on career choices.
“Every career path matters we are all different, with unique talents and passions. What is important is to pursue what aligns with your purpose and to respect the journeys of others,” she said.
She added that the annual exhibition continues to play a crucial role in shaping young lives by not only providing information but also instilling hope and motivation.
As the programme continues, more schools are expected to attend and benefit from the initiative, reaffirming the municipality’s commitment to empowering youth and unlocking their full potential.
