Luthuli Brigades FC began their 2026 ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs campaign with a hard-fought draw against NWU Soccer Institute, keeping their hopes alive in the prestigious tournament.
Ahead of the opening fixture, the Executive Mayor of Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, Cllr Mbuso Magubane, held a special engagement with the team’s technical staff and players to encourage them as they prepared to represent the municipality on the national stage.
Mayor Magubane congratulated the club on being crowned champions of the ABC Motsepe League, an achievement that secured their place in the Motsepe Foundation Playoffs.
“You have already made us proud by becoming league champions and reaching this national stage. Go out there with discipline, unity, and the fighting spirit of Chief Albert Luthuli. We are behind you every step of the way,” said Magubane.
The Mayor also called on residents of Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality to rally behind the team and support them throughout their playoff journey.
“All the best in the Motsepe Foundation Playoffs. Go and make us proud! All the best to Luthuli Brigades. Bring those three points home,” he added.
Although the team was unable to secure a victory in their opening match, the draw against NWU Soccer Institute provides a solid foundation as they continue their quest for promotion.
The result reflects the determination and resilience that have characterised Luthuli Brigades FC throughout the season.
With the support of their municipality and local communities, the team remains focused on achieving success in the national playoffs and earning a place in South African football’s higher ranks.
