MEC Shongwe vows to crack down gangesterism and crime in Ermelo

The MEC for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison in Mpumalanga, MEC for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison in Mpumalanga,has vowed to crack down gangsterism and crime in Ermelo and surrounding areas.
Shongwe made the commitment during a community and stakeholders Imbizo at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Wesselton, Ermelo, Msukaligwa Local Municipality on August 28.
He said the local community and businesses have suffered a lot in the hands of gangsters and criminals and this had to stop immediately. This follows several complains about gangsterism raised by members of the community during Imbizo.
“I want to assure all of you that together with all the law enforcement agencies, we will continue to fight against these gangsters and criminals who have been terrorising you”, said MEC Shongwe. “This war against gangsters and lawlessness is one that we are prepared for and are going to win at all costs,” added  Shongwe.
He said his department had called the Imbizo so they can listen to communities who are affected by crime and also to give them assurance that the fight against criminality in the area had already begun and would continue until law and order is restored.
The Executive Mayor of Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM), Councillor Water Mngomezulu committed that all the local municipalities in the region will fully enforce by-laws.
 Mngomezulu said this would go a long way in helping fighting crime in the area, in particular at liquor outlets and other business establishments.
