The poles with live wires are in Elukwatini.
The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) has issued an urgent public safety warning of an immediate and temporary road closure in Elukwatini, Ward 14, commencing today, October 08.
The closure is effective immediately and affects the section of road behind the shopping complex in the area.
This is due to fallen live electrical poles and wires lying on the road. These pose a severe danger to life and public safety.
Closure Details
• Affected Area: The road section directly behind the Elukwatini Complex Shops in Ward 14.
• Effective From: October 08 2025.
• Expected Re-opening: The road will remain closed until further notice and would only be re-opened once it has been officially declared safe by emergency teams.
Eskom’s electrical teams are currently on-site conducting emergency repairs.
This involves removing the poles and restoring live electrical lines.
A full road closure is necessary to allow the teams to work safely and efficiently without risk to the public or their personnel.
The public, motorists and pedestrians, should note that the affected section of road is completely inaccessible and is urged to stay clear of the work zone.
Residents should avoid the area entirely until repairs are complete and the road is officially re-opened.
People are explicitly warned not to approach, touch, or attempt to move any electrical cables or poles under any circumstances. Keep children and pets away from the area.
The CALM regrets any inconvenience this emergency closure may cause and asks the community for patience and cooperation as the teams work to resolve this critical public safety issue.
