A devastating shack fire in Silobela Extension 4 in Carolina has left a mother and her 7-year-old daughter homeless after their shack and all their belongings were destroyed in flames on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Enestina Makhaola, the fire broke out shortly after she lit a coal stove before locking the shack and going to a nearby tuck shop.

When she returned moments later, she found the shack engulfed in flames.

“There was nothing that could be saved from the fire. My daughter and I are left with only the clothes we were wearing at the time. We have no food or shelter. I don’t even know where to go to get help,” she said.

Makhaola also said the incident has left them traumatised and without a place to stay.

A ward councillor has been informed about the family’s situation, with hopes that assistance will be provided to help them rebuild their lives.

Makhaola is now appealing to members of the community for any form of assistance, including clothing, furniture, food, blankets, and other basic essentials.

No injuries were reported during the incident, and the exact cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
