Mpumalanga is once again getting ready for its annual Mpumalanga Cultural Xperience (MPUCE), celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with a special theme song, Phuma Langa.

The Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation (DCSR) collaborated with the Redamancy Studio’s Music Creatives Workshop, a major player in MPUCE, to create this breakout song.

For years, this workshop had been instrumental in nurturing local talent and launching the careers of rising stars such as Phumla Music and Mlingani.

The anthem brought together a vibrant group of artists from this year’s Music Creatives Workshop’s cohorts.

These talented musicians, hailing from every corner of the province, converged at Dawsons Trout Lodge in eManzana from August 12-14 to record the track.

“It was a fruitful two days in eManzana and we are now at post-production to ensure the song is polished and ready for music lovers across South Africa (SA) and beyond our borders,” said Zoe Matsebula-Mnguni of Redamancy Studios.

More than Just a Song

Launched in 2015, MPUCE has grown into SA’s largest cultural festival, promoting social cohesion, tourism and the arts.

Its diverse events include a street carnival, comedy shows, music festivals, workshops and the prestigious gospel music awards; held across all provincial districts.

This year’s milestone event is planned for November 27 to December 7.

The DCSR’s spokesperson, Sibongile Nkosi, highlighted the significance of the anthem. “We’re excited about this project as locals collaborated on a song to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Mpumalanga Cultural Xperience,” she said.

Phuma Langa is scheduled for release on all major digital platforms ahead of the festival.

With its blend of fresh talent and infectious energy, the song is tipped to become a national sensation across the country’s airwaves and topping the summer charts.
