A suspect in custody was allegedly killed at Elukwatini Police Station during a fight with another detainee on Sunday, May 12.
According to a spokesperson for Elukwatini police station, Sergeant Wiseman Nkosi, three suspects between the ages of 14 and 20 were arrested in connection with a murder that occurred in April 2007. They were arrested and detained at Elukwatini SAPS cells.
“On the said day of the incident, at about 00:00, the relief commander who was on duty at the time heard some shouting inside the cells while he was doing his inspection. He then mobilized his relief members to check what the issue was.
When they entered the identified cell where the shouting was coming from, they found the motionless body of one of the trail awaiting suspects. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene,” he said.
Nkosi added that upon their investigation, the inmates informed them that some of them were fighting amongst themselves and that’s how the deceased lost his life in the hands of the other inmates.
He said it is believed that the fight started from outside the community where they come from, as they are all from different gangs in the area
