Talented sprinter Shepherd Lukhele from Nhlazatshe continues to shine on the track, steadily building an impressive collection of medals through hard work and determination.
His recent performances have not gone unnoticed, earning him selection to represent Mpumalanga at the first Inter-Provincial Nationals set to take place in Pretoria on June 20.
Despite his growing success, Lukhele faces a major hurdle a lack of financial support to compete beyond local and provincial levels.
The young athlete is now appealing to businesses, community members and potential sponsors from his hometown and beyond to assist him in pursuing international opportunities.
“I do receive a number of invitations to compete internationally, but I am often forced to withdraw due to a lack of funding. I cannot afford the costs on my own.I have been working hard and have collected many medals. With proper support, I believe I can achieve even more and bring back results from international competitions,” ” he said. “
Lukhele’s recent achievements reflect his consistency and determination across multiple events. At the MTO Trials Cross Country, he secured third place in the 2km men’s race. He followed this with another third-place finish in the 2km event at the DAC Cross Country.
His momentum continued at the Laerskool Laeveld Cross Country, where he claimed second place in the 2km race.
At the KMC Cross Country event, Lukhele delivered a double podium performance, finishing third in both the 8km and 2km races.
He also maintained his form at the Eagles View Cross Country, earning third place in the 8km race.
As he prepares to compete on a bigger stage in Pretoria, Lukhele remains focused on his goals.
With the right financial backing, he hopes to turn his local success into international achievement and proudly represent his community and province on the global stage.
