Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to improving service delivery through stronger coordination and accountability during the Premier’s Coordinating Forum (PCF) held at the Gert Sibande District Municipality on Friday, July 24.
The Premier’s Coordinating Forum brings together provincial government departments and municipalities to assess the progress of service delivery, strengthen collaboration across the three spheres of government, and identify challenges affecting communities.
The meeting was attended by MECs, Executive Mayors, Traditional Leaders, the Director-General of the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, Heads of Departments, Municipal Managers, government officials, and representatives of Chapter 9 Institutions.
A key issue discussed during the forum was the impact of National Treasury’s withholding of equitable share allocations to several Mpumalanga municipalities.
The measure affects municipalities with outstanding debt or unfunded budgets, placing additional pressure on local service delivery.
Ndlovu said the provincial government remains committed to supporting the affected municipalities to meet the requirements necessary to unlock the withheld allocations and restore financial stability.
He also reiterated the importance of the District Development Model (DDM) as the foundation of integrated planning in Mpumalanga. DDM Champions have been appointed in every municipality to strengthen oversight, improve coordination, and ensure greater accountability in the implementation of government programmes.
Addressing delegates, Premier Ndlovu stressed that the success of the Premier’s Coordinating Forum depends on government’s willingness to assess its own performance honestly and ensure that commitments made to residents are fulfilled.
“Today, our responsibility is to honestly assess whether the resolutions we adopted previously are being implemented and whether they are improving the lives of our people,” said Premier Ndlovu.
He concluded by emphasising that the forum serves as an important platform for holding government accountable and ensuring that coordinated action results in improved service delivery and better living conditions for the people of Mpumalanga.
