The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced that social grant beneficiaries whose payments are under review will receive their August grants on Friday, 7 August, one day after the normal three-day payment cycle.
According to SASSA, beneficiaries whose grants have been flagged for review will not be paid during the usual payment dates but will instead receive their money on the fourth payment day.
The August payment schedule is as follows:
• Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 04 August
• Disability Grant: Wednesday, 05 August
• Children’s Grants: Thursday, 06 August
• Grants under review: Friday, 07 August
SASSA has urged beneficiaries who do not receive their grants on the first three payment days not to panic or immediately visit their nearest office, as payments for grants under review will be processed on August 07.
The agency stressed that beneficiaries must still complete the review process during August.
Failure to respond to a review request could result in a grant being suspended or lapsing in terms of the Social Assistance Act.
Beneficiaries selected for review are notified by SMS, and SASSA has encouraged recipients to ensure their contact details, including cellphone numbers and residential addresses, are up to date.
Changes in financial circumstances or travel outside South Africa must also be reported.
When attending a review, beneficiaries should bring the required supporting documents, including a valid South African identity document, proof of income, recent bank statements, proof of residence and any other documents relevant to the type of grant they receive.
SASSA also encouraged beneficiaries to make use of its digital services, with free Wi-Fi available at its offices to help clients access online services and reduce waiting times.
