The MEC for Social Development, Khethiwe Moeketsi, pledged her support and commitment to improve services rendered by the department. She promised the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and National Development Agency (NDA) will improve the lives of Mpumalanga’s people relying on these entities. Efforts would be doubled in rural areas. Moeketsi shared her message with senior managers from SASSA and the NDA during a meeting on April 10 in Mbombela.

Reflecting on achievements of these two entities, the MEC highlighted SASSA’s role in providing needy learners with school uniforms. It includes other interventions SASSA provides to the majority of Mpumalanga’s residents. She also explained the NDA’s community projects. These are aimed at addressing poverty and inequality.

Regarding changing gold cards to black cards, Moeketsi urged SASSA to continue its programmes. These are aimed at ensuring grant recipients change cards before deadline.

Moeketsi further promised to work closely with SASSA, the NDA and other stakeholders to find solutions against gender based violence. These should address unemployment, poverty and inequality in the province. ‘’We need to work together towards a common goal to protect vulnerable groups in our society. We must we free Mpumalanga’s residents from substance abuse and other social issues,” she concluded.
