A 56-year-old teacher was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder following a shooting incident on February 14 in Elukwatini.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, officers responded to a shooting at approximately 02:10.
Upon arrival, police found a 22-year-old woman in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to her foot. She informed officers that her mother’s male friend had shot her and that her mother remained inside the house, unable to escape.
“Inside the residence, police discovered a 45-year-old woman lying on the floor in a pool of blood. She had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Emergency Medical Services declared the mother dead at the scene, while the daughter was transported to a local hospital for treatment,” Ndubane said
The suspect was found inside the house and was immediately taken into custody.
He has been charged with murder and attempted murder, and the firearm believed to have been used in the crime has been confiscated.
The suspect is expected to appear soon at the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court to face the above mentioned charges.
