The dagga that was confiscated from the suspects.
Two men, aged 42 and 47, have been arrested after police seized approximately 204 kilograms of dagga with an estimated street value of R1.2 million during an operation on the N4 near Middelburg on July 21.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, members of the Ermelo K9 Unit acted on information about a bakkie allegedly transporting dagga.
“Police spotted the vehicle travelling along the N4 and stopped it for a search. During the operation, officers discovered approximately 204kg of dagga, wrapped in sellotape and concealed inside the vehicle. The bakkie used to transport the drugs was confiscated and will form part of the ongoing investigation,” she said.
Ndubane added that the two suspects were arrested at the scene and charged with possession of dagga.
They are expected to appear before the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on July 22 to face the charge.
Ndubane said the arrests demonstrate the commitment of the police to disrupt the transportation and distribution of illicit drugs in Mpumalanga.
Police have urged members of the public to continue providing information on criminal activities, saying community cooperation remains vital in the fight against drug-related crime.
