Firearms and ammunition seized from suspects in Dondonald operation.
Two brothers, aged 35 and 36, have been arrested following a multi-disciplinary police operation in Don Donald, Mayflower, on July 16.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the intelligence-driven operation involved members of the Witbank Tactical Response Team (TRT), Standerton and Ermelo K9 Units, as well as Provincial Security Intelligence.
Ndubane said police acted on information that the two brothers, who live in Redhill, Don Donald, were allegedly in possession of firearms and ammunition.
“Upon arrival at the first address, members found a 35-year-old male in possession of one shotgun and 37 live rounds of ammunition. The suspect failed to produce a licence or permit to possess the firearm and ammunition and was placed under arrest,” said Ndubane.
Police then proceeded to a second address linked to the investigation, where officers conducted a search and recovered two live rounds of ammunition and 16 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition.
“The 36-year-old male was also placed under arrest for possession of ammunition,” Ndubane said.
The firearm and ammunition were seized for further investigation.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court soon on charges relating to the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Ndubane added tha the arrests form part of ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at removing illegal firearms and ammunition from communities and strengthening efforts to combat crime in the province.
