A former Police Constable (32) was arrested alongside three of his accomplices, aged between 25 and 40. The four were arrested in the early hours of Thursday, August 24 at Standerton and during their arrest, police recovered suspected stolen properties which is connected to a robbery incident which took place in the morning of that day.

According to the provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a report by police indicates that members of the police in Standerton were busy patrolling in the area when they spotted four males in possession of some bags.

“They then stopped and searched these men and it was during this time when they discovered some suspected stolen properties in their possession. One of the items that they found in their bags was a cell phone which was amongst the items reported stolen during a house robbery that was carried out a day before in the neighborhood,”

“Further investigations by the members were conducted which revealed that a cell phone, together with other items, in possession of the suspects belongs to a complainant of a house robbery. As a result, the four were immediately arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen properties,” he said.

He added that the suspects will possibly be charged for the said house robbery incident.

The investigators are working hard and at this stage it cannot be ruled out that the arrested suspects could have possibly been involved also in other house robberies that were carried out near the vicinity where they were arrested.

The former SAPS member was attached to Visible Policing in Standerton but was dismissed from work in February 2022.The four are expected to appear at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 August 2023 facing the said charges.
