A truck driver abandoned bail after being caught with heroin worth R75 million

Bonginkosi Cyril Gamedze (49) abandoned his bail application during his court appearance at Caroline District Court on Thursday, July 27, for dealing in drugs.

According to the provincial Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, Gamedze appearance followed his arrest by the Secunda Serious Organised Crime Investigation Team, White River K9, Elekwatini Fire Department, and Elekwatini LCRC on Sunday, July 16.

” We received information about an Isuzu 550 truck, that was carrying the drugs. The truck was followed, and it was pulled over along Badplaas Road. Upon the search, drugs estimated to be worth over R75 million were found and confiscated. The suspect was arrested and appeared in court, where he decided to abandon his bail application.

The Hawks are committed and are continually fighting against the spread of drugs in the province. The Provincial Head, Major General Nico Gerber, is appealing to the community of Mpumalanga to join hands in fighting crime in the province. He further appealed to parents and youth to refrain from using or dealing with drugs, as they pose a danger and lead to addiction.
The case against Gamedze was postponed to September 21 for further investigation.
