Crime FEATURED Local

Ekulindeni booster pump cables had been stolen by unknown suspects, on Thursday August 31. According to the spokesperson for Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality Thaphelo Phetla, said, due to the stolen cable areas such as Nhlaba and Steynsdorp will be affected.

However the municipality is working on repairing the pump. A security guard was also injured in the process. He is currently in recovering in Hospital.

“Buying stolen good (cable) is equivalent to stealing. We therefore, urge the community to report anyone who is selling stolen cable at their nearest Police Station as this cost the municipality millions of rands to replace the cables. It also cost a backlog to service delivery as funds are diverted to repair the damaged infrastructure,” he said.

He added that innocent community members are also affected negatively with these criminal acts as the community will be without water. “The Municipality wishes the security guard speedy recovery as he was attacked. We condemn the act of violence and stealing of municipal infrastructure.

He also pleaded with the community members to play their role in protecting the infrastructure that are in the residential area. He also asked the community to be patient with them while they are repairing the damages.
