Carolina’s police station recently hosted a safety awareness campaign for learners from various schools in the area at Siphakamile Combined School at Strathrae Farm.

The spokesperson for Carolina police station, Sergeant Thabang Mokwana , said the campaign was hosted in collaboration with the Department of Social Development Department of Correctional Services with its ambassadors who are ex-offenders and parolees.

“The main purpose of the campaign was to inform learners about discipline, substance abuse and crime. We are trying to teach these kids to stay away from any criminal activities from a young age which is why we brought former offenders to talk to them about life in jail.  They spoke about the effects of crime, prison life and disadvantages of having a criminal record,” he said.

About 120 attended learners the campaign and the organisers are convinced that what the learners learned from the campaign will serve them well stay away from crime and focus on their leaning.
