The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) Executive Mayor Daniel Pitoli Nkosi, has resigned both as the Executive Mayor and Councillor of the municipality.
CALM speaker Sibongile Gininda confirmed that Nkosi has tendered his letter of resignation to her office last week Friday June 14, due to his acceptance of a deployment at the Provincial Legislature.
“During a Virtual Special Council Meeting held today June 21, having declared a quorum of the meeting, the resignation of the Executive Mayor was tabled and Council accepted the resignation of Nkosi both as Executive Mayor and Councillor of the CALM.
The Municipal Manager Ephraim Thabethe has been mandated to declare the vacancy of a Proportional Representative (PR) Councilor in terms of the Electoral Regulations and the Municipal Structures Act, 117 of 1998 and inform the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in writing. The Councillor was directly elected as a Councillor therefore no election will be held in this regard,” she said.
Gininda also said the municipality would like to extend its best wishes to Nkosi on his new responsibilities as the member of the 7th Mpumalanga Legislature and all his future endeavours.
