The eManzana Cultural Centre is finally undergoing refurbishment after being damaged by fire.

The visit by the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) Corporate Services Section 80 Portfolio Committee indicates that there is a strong commitment to seeing this important community asset restored.

CALM spokesperson Thapelo Phetla, said the visit, the committee commended the work done so far, highlighting the dedication and collaborative efforts of all parties involved in reviving this important cultural landmark.

“The Emanzana Cultural Centre has long been a hub for artistic expression, community engagement, and heritage preservation, and its restoration is seen as a critical step in rebuilding cultural infrastructure,”

“The progress made in refurbishing the eManzana Cultural Centre is commendable. This centre is not just a building, it is a symbol of resilience and a beacon of cultural identity for our community. We appreciate the commitment shown by the contractors and community members in ensuring that this project moves forward efficiently,” Phetla said.

He also said the committee also emphasized the importance of timely completion while maintaining high-quality standards to ensure the centre can once again serve as a vibrant space for arts, culture, and social cohesion.

The committee applauded the project team for their commitment but raised concerns over recurring incidents of vandalism and arson affecting public facilities.

“The municipality is committed to supporting cultural and social infrastructure while advocating for greater accountability and community ownership of public spaces. We urge residents to report acts of vandalism and work with law enforcement to safeguard community assets. As rebuilding after such incidents places an unnecessary burden on already limited resources,” Phetla concluded
