Five people were killed in a head-on collission between two sedans on R35 Road between Amersfoort and Morgenzon on Monday afternoon. All five died at the scene.
According to the provincial spokesperson for Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison Moeti Mmusi, two more people sustained serious injuries, and another occupant escaped with slight injuries. The injured are receiving treatment at the nearby hospital.
The deceased includes one driver and four assengers. The cause of the crash is still unknown at this point, but dangerous overtaking cannot be ruled out.
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety Security and Liaison, Vusi Shobgwe is once more appealing to motorists to be cautious and also pay more attention to the rules in order to avoid needless loss of life and injury on the road.
“We continue to make a clarion call to our drivers to pay more attention while driving. They must also obey the rules and drive in a considerate manner. We must strive to spare lives because road safety is the business of every road user,” says the MEC.
He is sending condolences to the bereaved families and wishes those who were injured a speedy recovery.
