The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) hosted its Employee Wellness Sports Day on March 19 at the AJ Swanepoel Stadium in Ermelo, which saw a large number of employees braving the rainy weather to participate in the day’s activities.
The sports day was organized by the Department of Corporate Services within GSDM and offered a wide range of activities. These were designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork and overall well-being. Despite the inclement weather, employees participated enthusiastically in various games, such as soccer, aerobics, tug- o’- war, sack racing and passing-the-ball challenge.

The event also saw participation by Msukaligwa Local Municipality employees, who were invited to join in the fun and engage in the spirit of friendly competition, further strengthening the bond between the two municipalities within the same jurisdiction. The Employee Wellness Sports Day is part of GSDM’s ongoing efforts to continuously improve the health and well-being of its employees.
The event was generously supported by Sanlam Sky, Eutopian Wellness and leading medical aid schemes; LA Health, Bonitas and Keyhealth. Other supporters included IMAS, AVBOB and Shosholoza Finance. Clicks and Dischem Pharmacies provided on-site wellness services and health information ensuring employees had access to valuable resources.

The GSDM Council Speaker, Cllr Busisiwe Sekhonde, was joined by several other Council members who participated in the activities, highlighting the municipality’s commitment to promote health and overall wellness. The Municipal Manager, Absenia Habile, encouraged participants to use their time wisely to foster wellness and a safe and healthy work environment. GSDM thanked all participants and everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
