In a collaborative and multi-disciplinary effort to enhance road safety and enforce compliance,under Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM). A joint operation involving various departments and stakeholders was conducted on the roads of Elukwatini on October 27.
This highly coordinated operation brought together the South African Police Service (SAPS), municipal traffic control, vehicle inspectors from the province, and provincial traffic officers, all working in concert to address issues related to road safety and compliance.

CALM spokesperson Thapelo Phetla, said the operation was conducted with the utmost commitment to ensuring that all vehicles operating within Elukwatini adhere to the highest standards of safety, legality, and operational requirements.
“A total of 87 vehicles were inspected during the operation, resulting in the issuance of 30 summons for various violations. One vehicle was served with a notice to discontinue its operations due to non-compliance.
“This strong action demonstrates the commitment of the participating agencies to maintaining the highest levels of safety on the roads of Elukwatini and preventing vehicles that do not meet the necessary standards from posing risks to the community,” he said.

He added that the transport inspectorate played a crucial role in the operation, stopping 32 vehicles for thorough inspections. Seven summonses were issued to vehicle owners for violations, underlining the operation’s zero-tolerance approach toward non-compliance.
“Furthermore, the operation identified three vehicles that were overloaded, a hazardous practice that poses significant risks to road safety. Additionally, four vehicles were found to be operating without the required operating licenses, further emphasizing the need for stringent enforcement of road safety regulations,” said Phetla.
He also said operations of this kind will continue taking place across the municipality during the festive season to ensure safety on their roads.
