Limpopo and Mpumalanga officially launched the Winter Campaign Packages on May 29 at the Radisson Safari Hotel in Hoedspruit under the theme, “Two Provinces, One Destination”.
The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) board delegation, led by board member Sizile Ndlovu, said the province is excited about the collaboration as tourism continues to contribute significantly to the economy.
“In Mpumalanga, we are the second province in South Africa to receive international tourists, while Limpopo ranks second in domestic tourism. If we work together, we can become one of the best tourism destinations in the country and lead in the tourism sector,” said Ndlovu.
He added that both provinces are home to unique tourism attractions and scenic destinations that set them apart from other regions.
“We have beautiful tourist sites that other areas do not have. If we market them correctly, we can become one of the best destinations in the country,” he said.
Ndlovu also acknowledged some of the challenges facing certain tourism sites in Mpumalanga, adding that efforts are underway to restore and improve them.
“We have already started work at the Manyeleti Game Reserve, and we are also focusing on the Panorama Route to ensure these areas return to their former glory. We may not complete all the work during this winter season, but all the challenges will be attended to,” he said
The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) Board Deputy Chairperson, Grace Sibara, says the joint Winter Campaign between Limpopo and Mpumalanga marks a significant milestone in strengthening tourism collaboration between the two provinces.
Speaking during the official launch of the campaign held in Hoedspruit under the theme “Two Provinces, One Destination”, Sibara said the winter campaign forms part of the agency’s four seasonal campaigns outlined in its annual performance plan. The initiative aims to position Limpopo as a leading tourist destination locally and internationally during the winter season.
Sibara highlighted that Limpopo and Mpumalanga remain ideal winter destinations due to their mild and favourable weather conditions, unlike many colder parts of the country. She added that tourists are increasingly searching for experiences rather than provincial boundaries, making the partnership between the two provinces important in promoting a seamless travel experience.
“This is the first joint campaign since the signing of the collaboration agreement between the two provinces to aggressively market this wildlife and adventure destination,” said Sibara.
She noted that the campaign will enhance stakeholder relations and promote joint tourism packages showcasing attractions across both provinces, including the world-renowned Kruger National Park stretching from Malelane to Pafuri.
The campaign will also include digital marketing initiatives aimed at promoting warm winter destinations in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Sibara said the two provinces boast average winter temperatures of around 26 degrees, attracting tourists seeking warmer holiday destinations.
She encouraged local and international tourists to visit the region and enjoy its unique safari, wildlife and adventure experiences during the winter season.
