Police stationed at Ekulindeni acted swiftly on intelligence-driven information on Saturday evening, May 16 , at approximately 20:35, leading to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, officers received information about a foreign national allegedly transporting dagga from Steynsdorp to Johannesburg via Elukwatini in a Nissan NP200 with Mpumalanga registration plates.
An operational stop-and-search was immediately conducted, during which police successfully intercepted a vehicle matching the description. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered dagga weighing approximately 33.067 kilograms. The drugs have an estimated street value of more than R240,000.
“A 45-year-old male suspect was subsequently arrested for dealing in dagga,” said Nonyane-Mpe.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 May, facing charges related to dealing in dagga. Police have indicated that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
