Mpumalanga obtained an 84.99% pass rate for the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam results, an improvement of 7% from its 77% in 2023.
The MEC for education, Cathy Dlamini, announced the details provincial results at the Banquet Hall in Middelburg on January 14.
The 2024 Class had registered 66 936 candidates and 64 201 wrote all the subjects on offer and 54 567 passed. 27 885 of these learners qualify to register for bachelor programmes and 17 775 of these learners qualify to enroll for Diploma programmes
The overall best quintile 1 school in the province was Mkolishi Secondary School in Tjakastad formally known as (Badplaas) in the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, which obtained a 100% pass rate for two years in succession.
Ehlanzeni District was the overall best-performing district for 2024 with an 88.43% pass rate, followed by Gert Sibande District, Nkangala District, and Bohlabela District with 87.67%, 84.24% and 78.6% respectively.
Dlamini said for 2024, the provincial target for the mathematics pass rate was set at 60%. The class of 2024 has not only met this target, but exceeded it by an impressive 6.37%.
“These impressive results give us hope for a brighter future for all our children and for our province. We are not only celebrating achievements of the class of 2024, but also the collective effort that made this success possible. We owe special thanks to our teachers for their outstanding dedication and commitment. Not forgetting parents for supporting their kids throughout the year” Dlamini said.
