The body of an unidentified elderly pastor, who drowned during an alleged baptism at Etiyeni Dam, was recovered.
The body of an elderly pastor was recovered from the Etiyeni Dam in Schoemansdal around midday on Sunday, April 26.
The drowning occurred during a baptism ceremony on Saturday, prompting an immediate search by the police diving unit that initially yielded no results.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed the recovery, stating that the divers returned to the dam this morning to successfully retrieve the body.
While the deceased has not yet been identified, forensic pathologists have taken custody of the man for a post-mortem examination.
The police have officially opened an inquest case to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and to confirm the exact cause of death.
