The intensive search and recovery operation for a missing person in the Mlondozi River in Ekulindeni has entered its fourth day, with teams now shifting their focus toward the eSwatini border.
According to the spokesperson for Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality Thapelo Phetla since the disappearance, a dedicated multi-agency task force consisting of local authorities and volunteer groups has been working systematically along the watercourse.

Despite the grueling conditions, the teams remain committed to the search effort.
“As of today, the search perimeter has been significantly extended southwards. Operations are now concentrated on the stretches of the river approaching the eSwatini border fence, specifically near the confluence with the Nkomazi River,” he said
Phetla added that because of the proximity to the border, officials confirmed that all activities are being conducted in strict accordance with established cross-border protocols. Coordination with the relevant international authorities is ongoing to ensure the search is thorough while respecting regional security boundaries.

“We are calling on the members of the public for assistance. Residents in communities along the Nkomazi River, particularly those living near the border area, are asked to remain vigilant. If you have seen anything unusual or possess any information no matter how small it may seem please contact your local police,” he said
The family of the missing person is being kept updated on all developments.
While they expressed deep gratitude for the community’s outpouring of support and prayers, they have requested privacy as they navigate this profoundly difficult time.
The operation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
