A 23-year-old suspect, Linda Ellen Mpinga, appeared in the Volksrust District Court on June 09 and charge with dealing in dagga.
According to the provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, Mpinga, the appearance follows his arrest by members of the Wakkerstroom SAPS Crime Prevention Unit on Sunday, June 08.
“Officers were conducting routine stop-and-search operations when they stopped a Toyota Corolla driven by Mpinga, who was alone in the vehicle.Upon inspection, police discovered 26 kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R109 200. Mpinga was immediately arrested and charged,” she said.
Ndubane added that he is expected to make his next court appearance on June 11 at the Wakkerstroom Magistrate’s Court. He remains in custody.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the arrest and commended the members involved.
He stated: “The roads in our province should not be used for illegal drug trafficking. We remain committed to removing drugs from our communities and holding offenders accountable.”
