Police in Elukwatini, have arrested two alleged gang members in connection with the murder of a man at Nhlazatshe Number 3 on Saturday, August 22.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, police responded to a complaint of murder in the area. Upon arrival, officers found a man who had sustained multiple stab wounds.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned to the scene, but the victim was declared dead.

“An intensive investigation was immediately launched, leading to the arrest of two suspects, aged 19 and 20,” said Masondo.

Investigators are also probing whether the latest killing could be linked to another murder that occurred in the same area on August 20, 2026. That incident is also suspected to be gang-related.

Masondo said the two suspects are expected to appear before the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court in Elukwatini on Monday, August 25,  where they are expected to face charges of murder.

Meanwhile, Mpumalanga Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise commended police officers for their swift response and the arrests.

“We will continue to act decisively against gangsterism and the senseless killings in our province. Those who believe they can terrorise our communities through gang-related activities will face the full might of the law,” said Modise.

“I commend our members for their swift response, which led to these arrests, and we will intensify our operations to root out gangsterism in Elukwatini and other parts of Mpumalanga.”
