SASSA has announced the official payment schedule for social grants for September 2026, giving millions of beneficiaries clarity on when their payments are expected.
According to the schedule,
Older Persons Grants will be paid from Wednesday, September 2,
Disability Grants on Thursday, September 3.
Beneficiaries receiving Children’s Grants will receive their payments from Friday, September 4.
SASSA said payments for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant will take place on rolling dates later in the month.
The agency has also reminded beneficiaries that they can use its WhatsApp self-service channel to access important grant-related information without having to visit a SASSA office or contact the call centre.
The 24-hour automated service allows beneficiaries to check their grant payment status and track the progress of their applications.
SASSA said the WhatsApp platform is intended to make services more accessible and convenient, particularly for beneficiaries who may otherwise have to travel to offices or wait to speak to an official.
“This channel allows beneficiaries to access key information without visiting offices or calling the Call Centre.
The service is automated and available through WhatsApp,” SASSA said.
Beneficiaries are encouraged to keep their personal details updated and to remain alert to scams. SASSA does not require beneficiaries to pay a fee to access their social grants.
The September payment schedule provides beneficiaries with an opportunity to plan their finances and avoid unnecessary trips to pay points or SASSA offices.
