The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) is currently encountering challenges in supplying water in the high areas of Carolina due to the low pressure as a result of the non-functioning filtration systems of Carolina Water Treatment Works.
AccordingCALM spokesperson Thapelp Phetla, said after a comprehensive assessment of the infrastructure, the municipality recommends that Carolina Water Treatment Works be temporarily decommissioned to allow the maintenance team to commence with the refurbishment of the treatment works to address the current challenges and also prepare for the summer season as part of our preventative maintenance programs.
“It should be noted that the maintenance duration will be seven days starting from Friday (16/09/2022) till 23/09/2022, hence this planned program would have repairs immense negative impact on the water supply, therefore this serves to notify our clients to continue using water sparingly,” he said.
Phetla added that the progress update on the repairs of the plant shall be shared with the affected residents before the end of next week. Residents are encouraged to contact the call centre on 080 001 4890 (toll-free) or 017 004 0210 in which standard rates apply.
