The provincial MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Jackie Macie, has called on all women law enforcers to always be alert when on duty.

Macie, was addressing these officials during Operation Basadi on August 15, during a roadblock held in Alkmaar on the N4.

He said that their safety comes first and that they must not die in the line of duty when they have the necessary working tools in their possession.

“In as much as you are tasked with ensuring that the public is always safe, you have the responsibility to protect yourselves first. It is your responsibility to protect your lives so you can
protect the community. In the process of enforcing the law, you must not lose your lives. When we say you must treat everyone with respect when applying the law, that does not mean you must be undermined,” said Macie.

Operation Basadi is an all-women operation the SAPS conducts annually during August in conjunction with other law enforcement officers from the departments of home affairs, traffic, correctional services and CPF members.

“I will be a very disappointed MEC to have to come and bury one of our law enforcers at the hands of criminals or unruly motorists. You must not die on duty when we have given you enough ammunition. Please protect yourselves and make sure that our roads are safe and put behind
bars those who deserve to be there,” said Macie.

Institutions and organizations that participated on the road block were Provincial Traffic and Road Safety Education (DCSSL), Provincial Transport Inspectorate (DPWRT), SAPS, Mbombela Local Municipality Traffic and Law Enforcement, Department of Home Affairs, SARS, Department of Correctional Services, Cross Border Road Transport Agency SANDF and local Disaster Management.
