New Regional Executive Committee

New Gert Sibande Regional Executive Committee

The African National Congress (ANC) Gert Sibande Region successfully concluded its 9th Regional Conference on Thursday September 25 at the eManzana Badplaas Resort.

The conference, a key event for the party in the Mpumalanga, focused heavily on calls for unity, organizational renewal, and tackling pressing socio-economic issues.

ANC Mpumalanga spokesperson Sasekani Manzini confirmed that the conference proceedings included messages of support from both the party’s National and Provincial structures. The National Executive Committee (NEC) message was delivered by Joe Phaahla, the convenor of the NEC deployees to Mpumalanga, while the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) conveyed its goodwill through its chairperson, Mandla Ndlovu, and secretary, Muzi Chirwa.

A central theme echoed in all the messages of support was the urgent need to strengthen the party’s cohesion. According to Manzini, the messages “emphasised the need to build a strong and united ANC, which is an effective tool for liberation.”

She further stressed the necessity of a unified front for the party to execute its historic mandate: “A strong and united party is a necessity for the ANC to be able to execute its historic mission of serving the people.”

A highlight of the conference was the election of the new Regional Executive Committee (REC), ushering in a fresh term of leadership for the region. The newly elected officials are:

  • Chairperson: Walter Mngomezulu
  • Deputy Chairperson: Thulasizwe Thomo
  • Secretary: Aubrey Maboea
  • Deputy Secretary: Maqhawe Mlotshwa
  • Treasurer: Lindi Masina

Manzini conveyed the provincial structures’ congratulations to the newly elected REC, urging them to get to work immediately. “We wish the Regional Executive Committee all the best as they begin their new term of office, and we urge them to work tirelessly to implement the resolutions of the conference,” she stated.

The core focus of these resolutions centers on two critical areas: organizational renewal within the party and resolving the socio-economic challenges that confront the people of the Gert Sibande region.

In a closing statement that emphasized the spirit of unity, Manzini indicated the leadership’s concurrence with the new regional chairperson, Walter Mngomezulu, who, in his closing remarks, “called on all members to disband lobby groups and work with the leadership to make the ANC a home for all.”

“The biggest winner in any ANC conference is the ANC itself, not individuals. Conferences afford the ANC an opportunity to reimagine society and sharpen itself as a tool for liberation in the hands of the people.”
