The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) would like to inform all residents and businesses about a planned and essential electrical system upgrade at the Eesterhoek Water Treatment Works.
According to CALM spokesperson Thapelo Phetla, this upgrade is a critical step in the municipal ongoing efforts to improve the long-term reliability and capacity of the water infrastructure, ensuring a more resilient and efficient water supply system for our community.
“To facilitate this vital infrastructure work, the commissioning of the new electrical system is currently being carried out. During this period, the pumping capacity from the plant will be temporarily reduced. This means the municipality will not be able to pump water at the normal, required rate to meet the full demand of the supply network,” he said
Phetla added that while our teams work diligently to complete the commissioning, residents and businesses may experience the following:
- Lower than normal water pressure across the municipal supply network.
- Intermittent water supply or temporary water outages, which will be most noticeable in areas at higher elevations and at the ends of the supply lines.
- Reduced Reservoir Capacity Some reservoirs may not fill to their normal operational capacity. This could potentially affect the water supply even after the commissioning is complete, until the overall system fully recovers and the reservoirs are replenished.
“We strongly urge all residents and businesses to take immediate action and use water extremely sparingly during this commissioning period. Conserving water now will help minimize the duration and severity of supply interruptions across the municipality,” Phetla said.
He added that the municipality sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused by this necessary interruption. This essential project is a key investment in securing a sustainable and robust water future for the community. “
