Prof. Gregory Davids, Board Chairperson of South African Tourism, emphasized tourism as key economic driver with its impact reaching far beyond economic contribution. It acts as a powerful social catalyst; creating jobs, empowering SMME’s and opening historically inaccessible markets. Tourism fosters cross-border and cross-cultural connections, strengthening both identity and unity.
Prof. Davids stressed that tourism should be inclusive, ensuring local communities, an important focus for South African Tourism, also benefit from the tourism value chain.

“At its core, tourism encourages social cohesion, dismantles stereotypes, bridges cultural and geographic divides and promotes mutual understanding. Social cohesion within the tourism sector thrives on responsible practices respecting local communities, cultures and environments. When managed responsibly, tourism builds trust between visitors and hosts. Rather than merely exploring destinations, responsible tourism inspires travellers to meaningfully engage.”
Tourism Minister, Patricia de Lille, officially opened the Indaba, setting the stage for exhibitors to connect with stakeholders in a meaningful and personal manner.
