In a concerted effort to safeguard the financial health of the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM), a revenue enhancement meeting was held on Thursday November 02 at eManzana. The meeting, attended by key municipal departments, were called to to present sustainable strategies for revenue generation and expenditure control to ensure the municipality’s fiscal stability and growth.
The gathering, chaired by the MMC of Finance, Cllr Dlamini, saw presentations from various departments, including Planning and Economic Development (PED), Community Safety Services, Finance and Technical Services. Each department laid out their plans and reports, addressing CALMS’s current financial status and opportunities for improvement.

A concern highlighted during these presentations was outstanding debt owed to the municipality, primarily for essential services such as water and electricity. The amounts owed encompassed a wide range of entities such as government departments, commercial enterprises and community members.
The Executive Mayor, Cllr Daniel Nkosi, while addressing the attendees, highlighted the significance of these meetings, noting that without a robust revenue stream, the municipality’s development plans would remain unfulfilled.

He emphasized the need for prudent financial management and fiscal responsibility to guarantee the sustainability of the municipality’s projects and services. After the event, the mayor expressed his satisfaction with the presentations and stressed the need for continuous monitoring to ensure efficient implementation of the outlined plans.
