Criminals steal borehole equipment at Khuzulwandle

The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) strongly condemns the theft and vandalism of borehole equipment at Khuzulwandle. CALM’s spokesperson, Thapelo Phetla, said this will negatively affect the residents since they are depending on it for water.

He said cables, a pump and a motor were stolen, which will cause another backlog at the municipality because funds will need to be diverted to repair the damages.

“It is a devastating situation when service delivery infrastructure is constantly being vandalised. We urge our community members to report theft and vandalism of municipal infrastructure to SAPS or the municipality,” he said.

“Community members need to safeguard the infrastructure because it belongs to them to render their services. But if they are not going to act, criminals will continue destroying it and they will be affected and the municipality will be expected to carry the burden,” he said.

Phetla is also urging community members with any information that will assist the police in arresting the perpetrators and recovery of the stolen equipment, to come forward.
