The Department of Public Works, Roads, and Transport (DPWRT) has announced the immediate temporary closure of sections on the D2962 and D2963 roads.

The spokesperson for DPWRT  Bongani Dhlamini, said the closure affects the routes in Glenmore and the road from Swallowsnest to Dundonald.

“This emergency measure follows the structural failure of an aging corrugated metal culvert, which has collapsed and rendered the roadway extremely hazardous for motorists. The collapse has created a significant safety risk, as the structural integrity of the road surface above the culvert can no longer be guaranteed. Engineering teams have been dispatched to the site to assess the full extent of the damage,” he said.

Motorists who frequent these routes are urged to take note of the following:

Plan ahead expect delays and plan your journeys accordingly to avoid being caught in traffic near the cordoned-off areas.
Follow signage, temporary road signs and barriers have been erected. Please adhere to these instructions for your own safety and the safety of repair crews.

Alternative routes, road users are encouraged to use alternative gravel or tarred routes connecting to Dundonald until the repairs are completed.

Exercise caution if you are traveling near Glenmore or Swallowsnest, please remain vigilant and reduce speed as you approach the affected zones.

Dhlamini has emphasized that the closure is a necessary precaution to prevent accidents.

While a specific timeline for the reopening has not yet been confirmed, work is being prioritized to restore these vital transit links as quickly and safely as possible.
