The horns were hidden inside the bonet of his car covered with plastic.
Piet Retief police arrested a man who was found in possession of two rhino horns on Thursday, March 09 around 09:00 am.
According to the provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the 27-year-old, Ntsako Prince Letswele’s arrest came as a result of members of the public who brought information about his alleged dodgy dealings to the police.
“There was a white Nissan Qashqai travelling on the R534 Wakkerstroom Road and it was being driven by a certain man. Further details outlined that the vehicle was having a Gauteng registration number plates and that the car was transporting some rhino horns, ”
” The information was then followed by the police and the vehicle was spotted as it approached Piet Retief town where it was brought to a halt. A search was then conducted in the vehicle, members discovered the two rhino horns hidden inside the bonnet of the car but wrapped with some black plastics, ” he said.
Letswele has appeared in the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court Friday March 10 where the matter was postponed to March 14 to enable the suspect to obtain a legal representative.
