Provincial MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, in Mpumalanga Honorable MEC Thulasizwe Thomo conducted an oversight visit to the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality to assess the progress of the D481 project and inspect the site of the collapsed bridge in Carolina.
Thomo visited the area on, March 06.
The visit aimed to evaluate the implementation of the D481 project, which is a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at improving road networks and boost the economic activities in the municipality. MEC Thomo emphasized the importance of timely and efficient project delivery to ensure that communities benefit from improved services and infrastructure.
During the visit, the MEC also inspected the site of the collapsed bridge in Carolina, which has significantly impacted local communities and transportation networks. The collapse has disrupted access to essential services, schools, and economic activities, prompting urgent intervention from the provincial government.
MEC Thomo expressed concern over the delays in addressing the service delivery issues especially road infrastructure and called for accelerated efforts to complete projects within the specified timeframe of the contract whilst ensuring the safety of residents.
“The delays of infrastructure projects has had a profound impact on the daily lives of our people. We cannot afford any further delays in resolving these issues. Our teams must work around the clock to ensure that government projects are completed in time,” said Thomo.
The MEC further committed to working closely with the municipality, contractors, and other stakeholders to address challenges and ensure that both the D481 project and the bridge reconstruction are completed within the stipulated timelines.
He also urged community members to remain patient and assured them that their concerns are being prioritized.
The MEC Thomo concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure that meets the needs of all citizens.
