The Mpumalanga Provincial Government has taken another significant step towards improving healthcare service delivery with the official handover of 70 new service vehicles aimed at strengthening emergency medical services across the province.
Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu, accompanied by MEC for Health Sasekani Manzini, officially handed over 15 ambulances, five primary response vehicles and 50 service delivery vehicles during a ceremony held at Mbombela Stadium on June 02.
Addressing emergency medical personnel, healthcare workers and government officials, Ndlovu praised frontline healthcare professionals for their dedication and unwavering commitment to ensuring that quality healthcare services reach communities throughout the province.
He said the provincial government remains committed to strengthening the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) fleet, revealing that Mpumalanga currently operates 195 ambulances and is on course to reach its target of 204 ambulances.
According to the Premier, the newly acquired fleet will significantly improve the province’s ability to respond to medical emergencies, reduce response times and enhance the overall delivery of healthcare services, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
“The investment in these vehicles demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that every resident of Mpumalanga has access to reliable and quality healthcare services when they need them most,” Ndlovu said.
MEC Manzini welcomed the handover, describing it as a major investment in the province’s healthcare system.
She said the additional ambulances, response vehicles and service delivery vehicles will strengthen emergency medical services, improve response times and enhance healthcare delivery across Mpumalanga.
The new fleet is expected to play a critical role in expanding access to emergency healthcare, supporting healthcare workers in the field and reinforcing the provincial government’s commitment to providing efficient, accessible and quality healthcare services to all residents.
