Rainbow Chickens hosted a Farmer’s Day in Carolina Town Hall. It was held in conjunction with the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) Local Economic Development Department. It provided a valuable platform to educate farmers on food production and national food security. The organisation provided farmers with essential knowledge to improve and grow their agricultural practices.

The comprehensive presentation focused on chicken farming, emphasizing the importance of biosecurity and also offered guidelines on starting and maintaining a successful and sustainable poultry farm. The goal of the event underscored Rainbow Chickens commitment to boost the local economy by empowering farmers with practical knowledge.

The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs delivered presentations on crop and animal farming. The team included an agricultural economist who explained ways farmers can apply for government grants and bank loans. His advice ensured farmers are financially informed and capable of expanding their operations.

Showing community empowerment, experienced farmers shared their journeys, insights, hands-on experience and lessons learned from working the land. They committed themselves to mentor aspiring and fellow farmers to foster growth and self-sufficiency within the sector.

The Farmers’ Day was a significant milestone in strengthening partnerships between government, private sector and the farming community. It shared a common vision towards achieving food security, job creation and economic growth in CALM.
