The Mpumalanga Department of Education (DoE) is sending out a final reminder to all parents and guardians:
The August 31 deadline for school admissions for the 2026 academic year is just three days away.
DoE spokesperson Jasper Zwane is urging parents to register their children promptly at a nearby school.
Early registration is crucial, as it helps schools prepare for the new academic year and ensures that teaching and learning can start smoothly on the very first day of school in 2026.
“The department has issued clear guidelines to schools to ensure that the admission process is fair, transparent, and inclusive,” Zwane said.
He emphasized that no learner of school-going age should be denied admission at a public school, regardless of whether their parents can afford fees or because of religious beliefs.
Zwane also clarified that children who lack official documents like birth certificates, IDs, or proof of residence should not be turned away.
Principals must accept alternative proof, such as an affidavit or sworn statement from a parent or guardian, and help families get the necessary documents from relevant government departments.
All schools are expected to create admission committees to manage the process professionally.
Principals must also ensure that all learner information is accurately captured in the SA-SAMS system without delay.
Zwane advises parents to choose schools closest to their homes to make travel easier for their children.
The MEC for the DoE Lindi Masina, reinforced this message, stating, “Education is a fundamental right.
Every child deserves a place in school, regardless of their circumstances.
I call upon parents to take responsibility and register their children within the set deadline, so that together we can guarantee access to quality education for all.
