Two men aged 29 and 40 have been arrested and charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle after police recovered a stripped Volkswagen Golf 5 at Nhlazatshe No. 6 near Elukwatini on Wednesday, September 09.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, members of the Gert Sibande Highway Patrol received intelligence about a suspected stolen vehicle in the Elukwatini area at about 12:30.
Police followed up on the information and went to Nhlazatshe No. 6, where they discovered a stripped royal blue Volkswagen Golf 5.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Dawn Park, Gauteng, during August 2026,” said Ndubane.
She added that the vehicle parts were confiscated and will be used as evidence as investigations continue.
Two suspects, identified as Sibusiso Ntuli (40) and Simphiwe Mandulo Mabuza (29), were arrested at the scene and charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
“Further investigations revealed that one of the suspects was allegedly in contravention of South Africa’s Immigration Act after failing to produce the required documentation to remain in the country. An additional charge was therefore added,” she said
Ndubane further said that Ntuli and Mabuza appeared before the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court on Today September 10. The matter was postponed to September 17 for a formal bail application.
Mpumalanga SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise commended the Gert Sibande Highway Patrol members for their swift response and commitment to combating crime.
Modise also welcomed the information provided by community members, which enabled police to recover the suspected stolen vehicle and arrest the two suspects.
“We need a society that will not turn a blind eye when crime is committed, but will report it,” said Modise.
Police urged communities to continue sharing information about suspected criminal activities with law enforcement authorities, stressing that community cooperation remains an important tool in the fight against crime.
